Although Jamaica is known as a “beachy” vacation destination, it is beginning to promote alternatives, offering some of the best "off-beach" adventures in the entire Caribbean. The global growth of sustainable travel has motivated Jamaica to re-introduce itself as a multidimensional destination adding activities such as mountain biking, caving, nature hikes and canopy tours to its repertoire. The richness of Jamaica's culture and history paired with its diverse landscapes and natural resources, makes Jamaica a well-rounded choice for adventure and eco-travel. Beaches like Winnifred Beach should be left alone. This type of community beach should not be exploited and taken from the people who enjoy it most. As a frequent visitor to Jamaica and a travel professional, I encourage the Beach Control Act of 1956 to remain. There are plenty of mega-resorts on this island. If the beach belongs to the people, then it should stay with the people. It was a gift (a benefit) for the ordinary people, and it seems that they will be the last to benefit if a resort goes in.
